on friday the 15th i made the trip to moose jaw to the spa and to watch the blades take on the warriors and (eventually) win their 10th straight game. low scoring game for once but there was definitely no shortage of penalties. gwinner, stransky and dietz with the goals for that game. 8 days later i headed back, with what was around 50ish other blades fans. the blades came out firing from the start, with three goals in the first. the shots after one were 21-5... another game where we were not disciplined one bit. our pk was a game changer for sure, as we probably would have lost if we werent on top of our game, also makarov was amazing.they did end up getting a goal on the pp at the end of the second but that didnt help at all as we went on to win 7-1. and as youve probably read already, our 15th straight win.
so during the game on the 15th, i sat in front of 3 (very annoying) girls, and on the 23rd, i sat directly behind them. i'd imagine they had seen me tweeting during the first game, because it was very obvious they were trying to find my twitter account in the third period of the second game, especially with the things she was searching on twitter. by the way i never look at peoples phones (especially during a game) but it was hard not to this time. so after the game, the one turns around and says to me "excuse me, sorry for being so annoying" in a bitchy way. i never seen her go on my twitter profile, but i did tweet during the game that i sat by "annoying fuckers". definitely not sitting in that section again....
whatever we've won our last 15 and the warriors arent even making the playoffs

OIL KINGS VS RAIDERS & BRONCOS 2013
so last week i drove up to prince albert, then down to swift current a couple days later to watch the oil kings play the raiders and broncos. edmonton hadnt won vs prince albert all season (who would have expected that at the beginning of the season?!) so obviously she wasnt gonna be easy. no goals in the first and only one in the second by the raiders, then both teams came out firing in the third. edmonton eventually went down 3-1 then with about 8 minutes left in the game all hail st croix who scored on the powerplay, then about a minute later, legault tied er up. so off to overtime, the oil kings has mostly all the chances so things seemed to look up early. musil scored the winner and the boys won a heartstopper. there were barely any penalties during the game unlike five days later.... i headed to swift to the game and fuck it was terrible. the iron was sure singing that night they all just looked sloppy. a couple questionable calls from the ref but they sure werent a factor. nice to see wruck (finally!!!) score in sask (he scored 2 games before in regina, but i obviously wasnt there and wanted to see him score). that was the last time cheering for the oil kings (in person...) until next month in regina so i definitely am praying they take on swift current in the first round, since that is their best bet for a sask team.

ERIC CHURCH IN SASKATOON 2013
so on tuesday the 7th, i went to the eric church concert in saskatoon. seems like all of canada saw him in a week and half the province was trying to get to the arena for the show. i had a vip package and for whatever reason (probably because they had teenagers running it) they gave me two packages instead of one, which meant two shirts, flasks, signed posters, and laminites. the preshow party was in the backstage lounge which had a merch stand, food, liquor, and a stage for the party. they were playing songs from eric church's ipod (he has very good taste). he came out at 730 to play a couple acoustic songs, which one of my favourites (two pink lines) was one of them. after that, i went down to the pit to stand and wait just a couple minutes for colt ford to open. loved that he wore a blades jersey, hated that he didnt sing "ride through the country", "mud digger" or "drop zone theme song" haha. finally eric came on and the whole fuckin rink lit up... never seen so many country people in one place. he played every song i hoped he would and gets pretty rowdy (like anyone would...) during his set. overall it was a sick concert, and what came after (#liquor) topped it off.

SASKATOON BLADES: JANUARY 2013
2013 started with an early game vs medicine hat at home on the first. i wish we would have played this way when we faced them in the first round last season...the boys came out firing kambeitz netted an early one, giebel got his first ever (he is 19....), then mccolgan got one on his birthday. cam lanigan got put in net and i swear it feels like he has been in the league for ten years. then josh nicholls' highlight reel goal was scored... he tries that move about 600 times a season and it never works...except for this game. mccolgan, stovin and kambeitz (again) scored and that was pretty much it for medicine hat. patrick johnson stood on his head during the game even though he is the clumsiest goalie ever...he has no idea how to handle the puck i swear. i was surprised he came that close to a shutout. on the 4th we played prince albert, and to no ones surprise, they scored 14 seconds in. we soon took that game over and won 6-3. red deer and edmonton came to town the next weekend and of course, the bartosak and brossoit stole the show. we lost 3-1 and 2-1...the next week we lost in a (lengthy) shootout vs kootenay, won a few days later vs moose jaw, and lost in another lenghty (12 round) shootout against brandon. the boys headed to brandon a few days later and posted a 4-1 win, then lost (duh) the next night in saskatoon against edmonton. we ended the month with a couple wins against moose jaw (5-0) and brandon (5-1).
also this month the blades held a club seat holder brunch at the casino... i decided to country it up and wear realtree leggings and a mossy oak jacket. low and behold when it was over, i just happened to glance over at astles walking towards walker (the two country boys), see him say something, have walker laugh and the group of (about) 5 that were around them turn around to look at me. frig i wanna know what was said.... (#firstworldprobs?)
i honestly do not understand this team... they are the most inconsistent team to play the game. lately we seem to either start the game off with an early goal and then fall apart in the third, or give up a couple goals early in the first, almost comeback, then give up with 5 minutes left. i hope we are not the toronto maple leafs of the whl, as in we suck mostly throughout the year then start winning with 10 regular season games left. if we were not hosting the memorial cup this year i would have took off to you-know-where a long time ago.

OIL KINGS VS WARRIORS 2013
well....while the blades were in brandon on tuesday the 22nd, i took the old oil kings jersey out of the closet
and headed out to moose jaw. i had been waiting almost three months to cheer on the oil kings again so i was definitley excited to get there. i had to park about four miles away (knock a building down and GET A PARKING LOT) and climb the 800 stairs up to the concourse doors. theres not a whole lot to do there (i hate when concourse's arent closed off) so maybe leaving that early wasnt the best idea. the fans there are "all" pretty nice, probably because they are all old, so i didnt get chirped at at all, other than two kids who decided to yell at me from the top of the section when i was down for warmups... i couldnt really say how many oil kings fans were there, since most of them dont wear jerseys other than a few (maybe 5) of dylan wruck's family. didnt see any of ashton sautner's family there, although they were in saskatoon the next day. they never seem to sit where i like to sit for away games, so i am always the one random fan in an oil kings jersey next to the home team fans.i hate going to away games (or home games) with people i know so bringing someone along is always out of the question. the game was all oil kings, the shots were 17-6 oil kings after the first, and it was 2-0. cody corbett had quite the (short-lived) fight against tanner eberle. it was a pretty rough game, even though there was only the one "fight" if you wanna call it that. jarry was absolutely amazing for edmonton, although his puck handling skills that night were questionable... so i guess edmonton decided to release the beast (trevor cheek) in the third. i was not at all expecting a four goal period, especially with cheek scoring three and assisting on the one. such a sick game to be at. the oil kings are extremely fun to watch/cheer for, i cannot wait for the next one.
so im sure one or two of you are wondering "what the fuck? the oil kings?"... i will always be a blades fan and they will always be my team, but i have had a "crush" on the oil kings (the team...not players) for quite some time now. no, i didnt just start liking them once they went on that crazy streak to end the regular season/start the playoffs last season, and then go on to win the whl championship.i started "liking" them in early april 2010 (i went back to find the exact month) when i started talking to a (now former) player. of course that was the end of their season but then once summer was over and the new season started i started watching/listening to games, basically just for the player. i remember after the game vs regina with the line brawl (october 1st) i was all about cheering for the oil kings even more than before. no, i never really tweeted about them because i never went to any of their away games that were not in saskatoon. i have wanted a blue jersey for the longest time, then finally, someone bought one for me. since they never wear them any more, i want a red one, and wont have any shame buying one. i was obsessed (and still kind of am) with going on their website the next day after a home game and looking at the game pictures and all the non-hockey related videos they post.
i would not call myself an oil kings fan, other than when i go see them play other saskatchewan teams and i cheer for them. but who knows what it'll be like in the future, since my whole town seems to think i am moving to edmonton in the summer........

SASKATOON BLADES: DECEMBER 2012
best month yet. didnt start good, didnt end good, but holy hell the boys took the fans on a rollercoaster in the middle.
so obviously we started the month in alberta, and we lost to red deer, you already know that. spokane beat us a few days after the alberta roady then we came out firing. home and home vs regina, we won the first game at home 9-0, and the second game 7-0. i wasnt expecting consecutive wins after that since andrey makarov went to russia for the world juniors and our backup who played very little previously would become our number one. but hey the boys went to brandon and put 7 in the back of the net. we were in moose jaw the next day and won 5-2, back in saskatoon a couple days after that and won 4-3 vs swift current, then kootenay came to town and we added 1 to the W column again. andddddd that would be the end of our streak. we were in swift to play the broncos before the break and lost 3-1 :( then lost both games in our home and home vs prince albert, as well as the last december game to regina on the 30th.
soooooo best month game wise, and worst month otherwise. yes we traded brett lernout :( as weird and embarassing as he seems (just watch On The Edge on sportsnet), he really was my favourite and a fellow #ferda enthusiast. i was really happy i got to see him play his last game in a blades uni when we were in red deer. i miss himmmmmm :(
9 HOME GAMES IN JANUARY!!!
